Exercising for Breast Health

Most of us are aware that October is Breast Health Awareness Month. And some of you, my friends in Atlanta and Philadelphia , are preparing for the Susan B. Komen Breast cancer awareness walks. I salute you!! Not only are you making a significant contribution to many women and the research efforts, you’re also dramatically impacting your own breast health.

  • Are you aware that exercise can improve your breast health by 23% when engaging in about 3.25 hours a week of running or 13 hours of walking? Recent studies, examining the exercise habits of over 64,000 premenopausal women found that even young adolescents can improve their breast health, for years to come, when they participate in a regular exercise regimen. In fact, the highest level of exercise (ages 12-22) contributed most strongly to the exercise /reduced breast cancer link.
