Ideal Woman Robs You of Holiday Joy

Hello there my friends and colleagues,

I hope that your holiday season is off to a magnificent start and that you’ve been surrounded by friends and loved ones to celebrate all that we have to be thankful for.

This time of year just makes me happy!!How about you?

I know for some it can also make us stressed, overwhelmed or a myriad of other emotions. As I reflect upon women’s wisdom and wellness, I must even remind myself that I, as a woman, I am the life source creating the holiday memories. This is our special gift to the world! It’s a beautiful part of womanhood. Yet often things can run amuck and we feel we really do need to do it all.

We are:
  • Cooking the family’s favorite meals
  • Decorating the home with holiday cheer
  • Making goodies for teachers
  • Shopping for the perfect gift
  • Writing letters / cards to friends, family, customers, business colleagues
  • And the list goes on and on!

All of this can be overwhelming especially when we compare ourselves to the “ideal” women. “Ideal women” you ask. Yes, you know her- the one who is in your own head, comparing you to other women who seem to have it “all together”. I know you know that voice.

“Oh, my sister-in-laws pies are perfect, how does she do that?”
“I can’t believe my colleague has her cards in the mail already”.
“My Neighbors decorations look so fabulous and my look _________”
“Sarah looks stunning in that dress and I look old, fat and frumpy!”
The gross part is we compare our bodies to our friends but worse, to the painted glamour gals in magazines. It’s ludicrous!!

Do you know that every woman has this crazed perfect voice in her head! Really! We think this Psycho crazy woman talking in our head is telling the truth. The only truth is, she’s psycho and nasty. She compares you on your worst day to another woman’s best day. What a way to rob us of our joy!!

I remember when I first learned about the “ideal woman”. I was shocked. It was as if she was always screaming in my head. As I thought about her lies, how much she wants rob me of joy and happiness, I immediately thought of Lucifer. After sharing this with my girlfriend, one day she said “alright Lucy (Lucifer’s sister;) that’s enough!”. She had caught me right in the middle of my perfection act, all stressed out over something so silly. We laughed our heads off and the stress went away. I also stopped the silly perfection act right then and there. You can call your “ideal woman” what you want, but when I hear her saying these nasty things, now I can say “Enough Lucy”! You’re crazy!!!

Why am I sharing this? My hope this that you can begin to hear your own version of “ideal woman” in your head- then put her in her place!! My hope is that this really will be a season of joy, not stress! That you will be able to have the freedom to express yourself in wonderful ways, create incredible holiday memories- that only you as woman can create.

To this joyous time of year!!

Sincerely,
Lori
